Did you ever hear of the Robber Fly?Sandpiper pest control, pest control palm bay, pest control vero beach, pest control sebastian, pest control grant

Robber Flies inject their prey with a deadly combo of enzymes that paralyzes and liquifies their victim from within. They have FIVE eyes, the better to see their prey . They hunt other flies, moths, spiders and dragonflies.

from Wolfspiders.org

“The Greek name for wolf is Lycos, and wolf spiders (Lycosidae spp.) are named as such because they were previously thought to hunt in groups, in contrast to spiders catching their prey in webs. Wolf spiders are also characterized by good vision, females carrying their egg sacs with them (most do), and eight eyes.

Wolf spiders are diurnal and have fairly large and robust front legs.

They use their strong cheliceraes to crush prey, and they can inflict sharp stinging bites on humans. They are very fast and can reach a speed of two feet per second over short distances.”

Tomato Hornworm

These large catepillars will morph into  a Five Spotted Moth. They have an insatiable appetite and will chomp up tomato and tobacco plants until there is little left.

April is National Pest Control Month

April 27, 2016 by sandpiper

Pest Control for Indian River County, Pest Control for South Brevard CountyThirty years ago April was designated as National Pest Control Month in order to honor the companies who eliminate or remove your ” pests with more than two legs”, and keep your home and business safe.

Pest like rats, ants, mosquitoes, cockroaches and termites cause widespread property damage or damage to our health. Before we had pest control to help keep these pesky creatures under control, they carried diseases which infected and in some cases caused the deaths of thousands of people. [Read more…]

March 16, 2016 by sandpiper

As I was writing these posts about the Red Imported Fire Ant, I got to thinking that while I know where they came from, not everyone else would. New Video- Carribean Crazy Ants

March 5, 2016 by sandpiper

JoelStoutSandpiperOwnerI was called out today to investigate whether a home belonging to one of our customers does indeed have termites. They do, but not the ground termites that a property inspector told them they had. What was in the ground is an insect known as Carribean Crazy Ants.

They both create mud tubes, but there are some differences. If you are a qualified pest control person such as myself, you know the difference.

Tenting Your Home For Drywood Termites

March 4, 2016 by sandpiper

Termite cause more damage more annually in the United States than earthquakes, tornadoes and fires combined. Facts about termites:

“DRYWOOD TERMITE FACTS

Drywood termites generally live, feed and nest in undecayed wood which has a very low moisture content. Unlike subterranean termites, they do not require any contact with the soil in order to live. Thus, they can seriously damage movable wooden objects such as furniture. In the United States, drywood termites are found in a narrow strip from Virginia, south to Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico and from Mexico to northern California on the Pacific coast.

A male and female pair work their way into the wood chosen for the nest. The opening through which they enter the wood is sealed with a plug of brown cement-like material about 1/8-inch in diameter. Behind this plug they excavate a chamber where the queen lays the first eggs. The nymphs which hatch from these eggs perform the work of the colony. Soldiers and reproductives develop from these nymphs. There is no distinct worker caste as in subterranean termites.” quoted from epestsupply.com

We recently tented a home in our area in order to clear up an infestation of drywood termites. Fortunately they had not done too much damage.

for all of your pests with more than two legs, call Sandpiper Pest Control.
